Screening and talk as part of the exhibition "Harun Farocki: Nicht löschbares Feuer, 1969. Übertragung des Films in eine Ausstellung", moderated by Manuela Mehrwald and Nicole Trzeja
The title of the second side-event is also a quote from Harun Farocki’s short film "Inextinguishable Fire" (1969). Against the backdrop of politicization in today’s moving image practice, and also Farocki’s didactic tract, Marcel Odenbach and Silke Schönfeld will discuss the 2-channel video installation "kommt und guck selber", a work by the Schönfeld from 2015. The film shows the daily routine of a young teacher as she corrects a pupil’s essay. This corresponds to the transcript of subtitles from an IS propaganda video.
Marcel Odenbach is one of the pioneers and a crucial figure in Video Art and teaches as Professor of Film and Video at the Academy of Fine Art in Dusseldorf. After studying Art and Philosophy in Dortmund, Silke Schönfeld switched to the Academies of Fine Art in Muenster and Dusseldorf. Manuela Mehrwald and Nicole Trzeja are co-curators of the exhibition and study History of Art at the University of Cologne.
