This year the stand of the CCA Temporary Gallery at ART COLOGNE art fair will host a small retrospective of what remains gallery from Munich as well as the TRASHFORMANCE by Adam Ritzke.
what remains gallery
What remains? Since its founding in 2009 what remains gallery circles around this question. Instead of producing something new, the focus of its artistic practice lays on the investigation and transformation of the already existing. What remains of an artistic work and its idea after it has been exhibited? what remains gallery traces this process, in order to discover a new beginning. It directs its attention towards the original material, which usually is dropped out by the contemporary art system – as substitutable, temporary and reproducible. what remains gallery approaches the forgotten and excluded, It is less the idea of a gallery, as more a space for transformations. The retrospective encompasses artworks made out of remnants of works by Laure Provost, Lawrence Weiner, Tony Cragg and Paul Cezanne as well as the newest project of the gallery in which AI-generated pictures have been transferred to the classical genre of oil paintings by chinese copyists.
The work of what remains gallery is also part of "Riding the Crest of a High and Beautiful Wave. Art as a State of Mind", the current exhibition at Temporary Gallery.

Adam Ritzke, TRASHFORMANCE
The era of performance is done! Time for TRASHFORMANCE! Perfomance art became anti-ephemeral at the same time creating tones of plastic. Does an artist, in a world of post-consumer excess, have any right to produce? Do not create anymore trash from art! Create art from trash! Artist is a recycler of the reality and a giver of new meanings to objects. In the course of Trashformances the artist collects all trashes other artists left behind during their performances raising awareness about trash production in the art system. During the art fair ART COLOGNE the materials for the TRASHFORMANCE will be the trash generated during the installation time of the art fair.
Adam Ritzke is an artist and curator based in Poland. He earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree in philosophy from Pedagogical University in Cracow and a bachelor's and master's degree in Intermedia Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.
