Philip Widmann
Das Gestell, 2017
30 min

Starting point of the film is a letter written by a Japanese philosopher to Martin Heidegger. In the letter Heidegger is consulted on how to deal with the progressing technologisation and how humans and technology can coexist. The film's montage montage - of letters, paraphrased philosophical works, conversations and biographical notes together with Super 8 recordings of landscapes, urban and natural, inhabited and deserted places - connects different times, places and people. It shines a light on the complex mediation and conciliation of cultures, nature and technology, of past and present, of dreams and facts.

Philip Widmann (born 1980 in Berlin) studied Cultural anthropology at the University of Hamburg and Visual Communication at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg.
