Lecture as part of the exhibition „I See, So I See So. Messages from Harry Smith"
The lecture explores the world of spiritism in connection with protest movements. McKee’s observations on séances, scientific progress, educational group tours and Kurdish protests merge with his own visions; a spirit appears and hunts the author; stories of isolated early Christians and 20th-century mystics influence his own psyche. The relationship between political resistance and spiritism gushes forth as a heretical force, a "hauntology" and a millennia-old energy that celebrates the ecstatic moment.
Francis McKee is an Irish writer and curator working in Glasgow. From 2005 - 2008 he was director of Glasgow International, and since 2006 he has been the director of the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow. He is a lecturer and research fellow at Glasgow School of Art.
